Zipper Workshop

* 2 classes (2 hrs each)

Learn how to sew zippers like a pro! This technique-based workshop will cover 4 types of zipper installations.

Throw Pillows Workshop

Sewing Life Skills

Sometimes your clothes just need a quick fix. If you're tired of having to send them to someone else, join us for Sewing Life Skills and learn how to rock the most common sewing repairs and alterations.


Skills taught:

- how to use a sewing machine

- hand-sewing techniques

- how to sew on a button and create a thread shank

- mending holes in seamlines

- repairing or altering an existing hemline

- adjusting fit (taking in, letting out, shortening, lengthening)

Sewing Basics: Home

* 4 classes (2 hrs each)

A great introduction to the art of sewing without too many details or complications. Sew three fun projects in just four weeks and learn how to ace classic sewing techniques. Stitch your way to a beautiful home!


Skills taught:

- how to use a sewing machine

- fabric basics (getting your fabric 'on grain', how to select the right fabric for your projects)

- double fold hem

- edge stitching

- pivoting

- installing an exposed zipper


Our projects:

- throw pillow

- pillowcase

- zippered pouch

Week 2 - walking foot and quilting guide

Let's make pants (or shorts)! Learn how to adjust your pattern for a great fit, and enjoy weekly demos on belt loops, pockets, fly front zippers, and more!

Commercial Patterns 101 Workshop

Do commercial patterns mystify you? This lecture-style workshop is for all the sewers out there who have questions about working with commercial patterns!  Learn how to decipher the information on the pattern envelope and instruction pages, test the fit, alter the pattern, and more!

 

Skills taught:

- understanding the information on the pattern envelope, instruction pages, & pattern pieces

- how to test the fit (tissue fittings, making a muslin)

- how to make basic alterations to the pattern tissue (blend sizes, lengthen/shorten, etc.)

- how to lay out your pattern pieces

- tips on purchasing fabric
