* 4 classes (2 hrs each) * $200 + HST * 8 hours total * Level 1 A great introduction to the art of sewing without too many details or complications. Sew three fun projects in just four weeks and learn how to ace classic sewing techniques. Stitch your way to a beautiful home! Skills taught: - how to use a sewing machine - fabric basics (getting your fabric 'on grain', how to select the right fabric for your projects) - double fold hem - edge stitching - pivoting - installing an exposed zipper Our projects: - throw pillow - pillowcase - zippered pouch NOTE: Supplies not included. Here's a list of the items you will need: - sewing machine - iron and ironing board - basic sewing kit (see below for a list of items) - fabric and notions for your projects (specific details to be discussed in class) - the appropriate zipper foot for your machine (specific details to be discussed in class) Sewing kit: - a spool of thread (we love 100% polyester, all purpose thread) - pins - pin cushion (or container) - fabric scissors - flexible measuring tape - sewing gauge - seam ripper - tailor's chalk If you're unsure of what to buy, just wait! You'll only need your sewing machine, an iron and ironing board, a spool of thread, scrap fabric for practice, and some scissors for Week 1. We'll discuss all required supplies in detail during class. This goes for fabric too so it's best not to shop ahead! NOTE: Once the course is underway, there will be fun homework that needs to be completed each week so that you're ready to sew during class (e.g. purchasing fabric for your projects, washing it, cutting it out). This takes time, so please be prepared to do your homework outside of class.
